200 years

For this very important day for Greece, we chose to include the following quote from Melina Mercouri’s answer to the 2nd argument for the return of the marbles: “The Greeks, who long after Pericles created the wonders of Byzantine Art. The Greeks, who even under the Ottoman occupation, created schools of art and crafts. The Greeks, who despite 400 years of Turkish occupation, managed to preserve their language and religion. […] The Turkish soldiers locked in the Acropolis were left without ammunition and began to destroy the ancient columns to remove the lead and shoot with it. The Greeks sent them ammunition with the message: “Take the bullets, do not touch the columns”. ”
